About the Mountain Deux
The Mountain Deux is an aquathlon (run/swim event) for all ages, hosted by the Land Trust of North Alabama and Mountain Springs Swim Club, in Huntsville, Alabama. Future events are currently on hold.
The running portion of the Mountain Deux will begin at the Land Trust's historic Three Caves site, and will continue on through various Land Trust trails (click on the trail maps for a larger version). The swimming portion of the event will be held in the saltwater pool at Mountain Springs. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each age group.
New this year: relay option!
This year, we are offering the option for you to partner up with one other racer to form a relay team. Both team members must register (chose Relay-Swimmer or Relay-Runner on Ultra Signup). Please be sure to list your team member's name during registration.
During the race, relay runners will tag their swimmer partner at transition. The first place relay team in each age category will get an award. Note that relay teams will be registered for the age group of the oldest relay team member. If you have any questions about this new option, please contact our Race Director, Courtney Spadaro, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Mountain Deux has four age groups:
15 and up / 7:00am
3 mile run, 200 yd swim
12-14 / 8:00am
2 mile run, 150 yd swim
9-11 / 9:00am
1 mile run, 100 yd swim
8 and under / 10:00am
0.5 mile run, 50 yd swim
Race packet pickup will be Friday, July 21st, at Mountain Springs Pool from 10am to 7pm.
Read here for race day tips and timelines.
The Mountain Deux will be held rain or shine, but the event will be delayed in the case of thunder and lightning. If there is severe weather, a call will be made the day of the event.
Please note that parents who act as a "running buddy" for their children do not need to register, but will not be able to participate in the swimming portion of the race, and will not receive a t-shirt or finisher medal. To receive a t-shirt, adults must register and race in the 15+ category, or sign up as a volunteer. Kickboards and lifeguards will be available during the swim portion of the race.
